A total of 17 Selby Striders ran the rather windy Brass Monkey Half Marathon on Sunday 22nd Jan, from York Knavesmire. Ben Hamilton was the first Strider home in 1:19:05. The first lady Strider home was Susan Parkinson in 1:46:34. Full race results are here

Ben Hamilton ran the Central Lancashire Half Marathon in a new pb of 1hr 18 mins 23 secs, finishing 8th!

Ben Hamilton ran the Preston 10 mile road race in a personal best time of 58 mins 25 secs. Rob Mcwilliam also achieved a pb in his 10k race, Leeds Abbey Dash, in 36 mins 47 secs. Simon Leigh Hunt ran a good time at the Barnsley 10k, finishing in 45 mins 30 secs.

Selby Striders held the AkzoNobel Wistow 10 mile road race on Sunday 23rd October 2011. Congratulations to all entrants, especially to men's winner Ian Fisher of Otley AC, and to ladies winner Dawn Broom from Barnsley Harriers.

What a Sunday!
Brilliant run from Rob McWilliam at the Liverpool Marathon. He is the first Strider in years to beat 3 hours for the marathon with a time of 2.59.47 – perfect run eh Rob! Not only was he sub 3 he was also 26th out of 5036.

A total of 16 Selby Striders runners took part in the latest York and District Road Race League 10k, held at a humid Knavesmire. The race was held on Tuesday 14th June. This was race 4 of 6.
The finishing times were as follows, and included several personal bests:

Ben Hamilton 37.17, Rob Mcwilliam 37.33, Ian Robertson 38.58, Matthew Ripley 42.16, Paul MacMillan 44.29, Steve Middup 44.44, Andrew Kay 45.08, Matthew Kitchen 46.18, Bob Dodgson 47.32, David Papworth 47.39, Barry Pickering 47.51, Zoey Henechon 50.38 (1st Selby Strider lady), David Kellett 51.08, Debbie Scott 53.28, Gill Kellett 55.20, Jean Pickering 1-00.41

There were six members in the race, and pride of place has to go to Dawn Mellor, who became only the third lady member of the club to beat the four hour barrier when she finished in 3:54:07. And two new age group records were set in our womens veterans section. Firstly Ann Everitt set a new F/45 time of 4:39:30, with Fran Whelan in the same age group only a few minutes behind here in 4:42:14. Then Gillian Kellett set a new time for the F/50 age group with a time of 4:53.17. The two men who took part were Ian Robertson, who ran a new personal best time for London of 3:08:25, getting closer and closer to the sub three hour mark, and Dave Kellett, who finished in 5:40:07.

Sports Injury Feature - Shin Splints Clinic

Are you suffering from shin pain when running?
If you are a runner then it is likely that you have suffered shin pain at some point. If you are or have had shin pain, then it is likely that the cause is Shin Splints. At the Hull, Selby and new Lincoln Sports Injury Clinics there are regular Shin Splint Clinics every Wednesday.

Your Therapist will be able to identify if this is the case, carry out the appropriate treatment and advise on the best way to prevent recurrence. Recovery is greatest when you receive regular treatment, so why not take advantage of 30-minute treatment sessions at only £15.
